During the Carters hike yesterday I encountered my first thru-hiker of the season. When I asked where she was headed, she replied, "Katahdin."
"Oh, wow. What's your trail name?"
Dame Quixote was from Chicago, started solo on the Appalachian Trail in Georgia on March 10, and was trying to put back on the weight she had lost over the last few months. She started using her second tent, a Lightheart, because the first one began leaking. Her pack weighed about as much as my own day pack. Her husband had met her at a few places along the way. She resupplied by mailing packages ahead. In Vermont she mailed a package to the post office that had closed for good. She had to hitchhike 7 miles to the neighboring post office to retrieve her errant supplies. She had been staying in the White Mountain huts because a friend of hers was going to join her there to hike, but cancelled at the last minute. She was unable to get her money back, so she used all four of their hut stays. Costly, but she was clean.

On a second subject, in honor of my brother taking a break from his blog, if it will cheer him up, I will sew 3 yellow plaid kilts for him and his dogs, like the Kiltie Brigade, and invite them to attend the Scottish-Irish Heritage Festival in Estes Park, September 6-9. There is a dog parade on Saturday and Border Terriers are eligible for entry. The banner can read Yellow Man Walking With Dogs. http://scotfest.com/
Are undergarments optional, or will I have to buy some clean underwear?
ReplyDeletePretty sure the Yellow Man would wear underwear.
