Part 5, Sheep Mountain

Disassemble the big pack and use the top flap as a fanny pack for the day hike to Sheep Mtn.
We start full of good cheer at the fire ring.
The initial climb was steep, of course. We arrived at a half cabin,
saw a couple of elk running away and then the sight of an elk herd crossing the leftover snow just below a ridge top,
babies nudged up and away from the strangers moving below the herd.
Across the wide meadow above tree line, lots of elk beds and other signs,
but at a resting rock, thunder started on the next ridge down.
It was another hour or two to the summit. It was a mile back across and down to the cover of trees. Time to call it quits and head down.
Disappointed, but alive, the monkeys head back to camp,
in time for another storm, ebook reading in the tent, and dreaming of fresh fruit, pizza, ice cream...
Next up, drying out, hiking out, and having a barbeque.
